Parliament Budget Session: Speaking at Lok Sabha as the Parliament Budget session resumed on Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the Centre for not handling the unemployment issue well. He also blamed the former UPA government for not creating enough jobs.

He said, “Even though we have grown, we’ve grown fast, growing slightly slower now, but we are growing. A universal problem that we have faced is that we have not been able to tackle the problem of unemployment. Neither the UPA government nor today’s NDA government has given a clear-cut answer to the youth of this country about employment."

The Lok Sabha Leader Of Opposition (LoP) also took the liberty to clarify his ‘poor thing’ and ‘boring’ remark on President Droupadi Murmu’s January 31 pre-Budget speech.

“I must say, I struggled through the President’s address to maintain my attention on what was being said because I had heard pretty much the same President’s address the last time and the time before that. It was the same laundry list of the things that the Govt has done," he said.

Last week, the Budget session kicked off amid controversy after Congress MP Sonia Gandhi referred to President Droupadi Murmu as a “poor thing" while commenting on her speech to Parliament. Gandhi expressed concern that the 66-year-old President appeared exhausted after delivering her lengthy, customary address. The BJP quickly condemned her remark as “derogatory" and called for an apology.

President Murmu addressed a joint sitting of Parliament to officially open the Budget Session. Outside Parliament, Gandhi, a senior Congress leader who has previously served as the party president, was approached by reporters for her opinion on the President’s speech.

“The President seemed very tired by the end. She could barely speak, poor thing," Gandhi said, standing with her children, MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. When asked about the speech’s content, Rahul Gandhi could be heard suggesting, “Boring? No comments? Repeating the same thing over and over?" as he assisted his mother in responding to the media.
