On January 25, a Class 11 student was allegedly made to stand outside her classroom for an hour after she requested a sanitary pad during her examination. Education authorities have now found that the government school in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly was at fault.

An inquiry was launched into the matter and the DIOS found that the school was at fault for not providing the student with basic menstrual hygiene support. Instead, she was left bleeding and the school authorities sent her home, Bareilly DIOS Ajit Kumar told Times Of India.

    The student had allegedly sought help from the principal. Instead of assistance, she was allegedly ignored and mistreated, officials had said.

    According to the complaint lodged by the girl’s father, his daughter went to the school to appear for an examination however realized her period had started. She requested a sanitary pad from the principal but was allegedly asked to leave the classroom. She was made to stand outside for nearly an hour, reported PTI.

    Thereafter, the father submitted written complaints to the District Magistrate, the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), the State Women’s Commission, and the Department of Women’s Welfare.

      Meanwhile, the school’s acting principal had earlier said she was informed about the situation but had asked the student to wait since she was occupied with some other work at the time. However, the student left with her friends. By the time the principal was free, the student had allegedly gone home.

Keeping in mind the safety of children, an order has been issued to close schools till February 5, 2025.
