Most people can probably identify the longest expressway in the country, but do you know which toll plaza generates the most income? Discovering the answer might prove challenging. As the number of expressways continues to grow nationwide, so does the toll revenue from them at a swift pace. Recent statistics indicate that toll collections in December surpassed those of the previous year.

“We have seen remarkable growth in our portfolio this month. Looking ahead, we are optimistic that this increase in toll collection will continue, fuelled by India’s robust GDP growth, which will elevate vehicle traffic across our network spanning 12 states," said Amitabh Murarka, Deputy CEO of IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited and IRB Infra Trust.
According to the data, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway recorded the highest toll revenue at Rs 163 crore in December 2024, an increase from Rs 158.4 crore in December 2023. Remarkably, this expressway covers only 94.5 km. This indicates that, despite its distance being under 100 km, it has achieved the highest toll collection in the nation.
IRB reported that the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway and NH48 amassed Rs 70.7 crore in December 2024, up from Rs 66 crore in the previous year. The NH79 from Chittorgarh to Gulabpura earned Rs 31.5 crore in December 2023, increasing to Rs 33.3 crore in December 2024. Likewise, the NH48 from Udaipur to Shyamalaji generated Rs 27.6 crore in December 2024, compared to Rs 26.3 crore in December 2023.
The NH66 from Karwar to Kundapura recorded Rs 13.4 crore in December 2024, a slight increase from Rs 12.9 crore in December 2023. The NH211 from Solapur to Yedashi maintained a steady toll collection of Rs 11.4 crore for both years. Significant growth was observed in the Hyderabad Outer Ring Road, which collected Rs 71.3 crore in December 2024, up from Rs 62.7 crore in December 2023. The NH27 from Samakhyali to Santalpur also experienced substantial growth, with collections reaching Rs 13 crore in December 2024 compared to just Rs 1.6 crore in December 2023.
